More Macro
I mentioned these filters a few posts ago (see here) and there are so many reasons why I adore them. But the reason they are the most awesome is that they don't cost that much and you get big results! That doesn't happen very often with photog toys. So go get yourself macro lens filters and I promise they will not disappoint!

New toy!
My wonderful, fabulous, amazing, etc. husband has given me a great new toy that I will be playing with and sharing with you!
The Nikon SB-600 Speedlight flash as pictured to the right.
If you have a D90 this is the flash for you. If you have another D-SLR then you need the appropriate flash for your camera. But no matter what you have an external flash is an amazing addition to your camera bag!

Blur, Blur, Blur (Project 2)
This weeks photo project is intentional blur. Our book outlines the 4 major photography techniques to achieve this effect. They are as follows; defocusing for a soft focus effect, using slow shutter speeds, panning or moving the camera during exposure.
I had so many wonderful ideas for this week and in the end only had time to demonstrate a couple but I will definitely keep those ideas in mind for when the opportunity presents itself.
Please feel free to leave comments tell me what you think. If your doing the projects along with me show me your work I would love to see it!
I used panning for this shot of my daughter running in our yard. I took about 50 shots before I struck gold with her beautiful smile.
This is using the long exposure method.

Baby Greisen
I spent some time with my nephew a few days ago and had an impromptu photo shoot! Baby photography is so much fun and he's at that stage where each smile is so rewarding to receive.

Architecture with attitude (project 1)
Today the project is architecture, specifically modern. I myself love the old buildings with their beautiful statuary and carvings but for the sake of today's project I will resist.
While the Sears Tower is hardly "modern" by most standards for me it suits the fulfillment of this assignment. I love the sky reflecting in the face of the building, the lines leading you straight to the top, the almost vertigo from the height.
"The Bean" makes for a fun photo op. While on some levels this would be fantastic with out the crowd I think it would speak less of it's location. It would take away from the feel of city, always on the move.
(This photo was edited using Picasa 3 using the Filtered B&W feature)
The "BP Bridge" I think it looks like the yellow brick road leading to the Emerald City
New Game Plan
I ordered some new photography books from amazon! (If you click on the link to the left you can have it too!) They are coming today! Does anyone else feel like the UPS guy is Santa? But I digress.
With this book I will embark on yet another photog journey. A journey to gain new skills and confidence. I will post about each project and you can do it with me and send me your photos so I can see your perspective!

Sunrise/Sunset
While on our vacation recently I had the opportunity to photograph an amazing sunrise on the Saginaw Bay. We weren't right on the water due to some marshy areas so it was interesting trying to photograph the large water area of the bay and also the pools of water that I could actually get to.
Later in the vacation at Lake Superior we witnessed an amazing sunset. Not only did I get some amazing pictures of the sunset itself I also got other amazing shots of the rocks and driftwood on the beach because the lighting was amazing.
Stay tuned for the driftwood and rocks!

In the dark
One of the most amazing things about photography is the images created when the dark erases the background and what you see is only what is illuminated. Night photography was also used famous railroad photog O. Winston Link where he literally told his story in photographs using light to illuminate what he wanted the viewer to see and left everything else shrouded in darkness.
Take glow sticks for example, the ability to write in the sky.
Or this bridge, while impressive during the day. It majestically lights up the night sky.And lastly the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse is gorgeous. One of the most beautiful lighthouses I've seen.
But it truly lives up to it's nickname "The Castle" as a tower in the night. You can almost imagine a princess locked up there awaiting her prince.
